Spiritual Practices

  • Dates: Every Thursday starting Sept 14th
    Time: 8:00am – 9:00am
    Place: Narthex
    Cost: Free

    You enter quietly to the room where a circle of chairs and an air of soft music invites. Each take a turn reading a Bible passage. Listen deeply with heart-centered attention. This ancient practice reveals surprising insights that are shared, or not, in the circle. Then after prayer enjoy a hot coffee or tea in the kitchen.

    he labyrinth is a walking meditation open to all who are seeking spiritual deepening. Music for meditation and a candle flame flickering in the center will greet you. Other times can be offered, just speak with the office for availability. On the third Thursday of each month Lectio (see above) meets in the hall to walk the Labyrinth.  More information about the labyrinth can be found by clicking here

    Healing is a term that indicates the process of restoring harmony and wholeness to body,mind and spirit. This process can occur not only within individuals but also within relationships, communities, and creation. It is our vision as a congregation to be a healing presence in our community.     – weekly appointments for spiritual direction that are open to all.
    – use a variety of spiritual practices to deepen the path you want to explore
    – spiritual direction using deep listening, contemplative prayer and silence rather than therapeutic techniques
    – sessions are private and confidential

  • Monthly Movie Night

    Date: Last Saturday of each month
    Time: 7:00pm
    Place: Sanctuary

    Join us on the last Saturday of every month at 7pm for a feature length film connected to the theme of the month. Popcorn, snacks and beverages are provided and the film is followed by a guided discussion and exploration of the themes that emerge. You are welcome to join in any month and the upcoming film is announced at the beginning of each month in the newsletter and bulletin. 

  • Afternoon FriendsBlack Tea

    Date: 2nd Wednesday of each month
    Time: 1:30pm – 2:30pm
    Place: Different member’s homes

    Afternoon friends is a women’s group that meets each month. Occasionally having a guest speaker who informs about volunteer groups in the city and abroad. Each meeting “tea money” is contributed and donated to local charities.  For more information please contact Lois.

  • Sr. Men’s Book Club

    Date: 3rd Tuesday of each month

    This group of men take turns suggesting titles and together they discuss a book, its theme, and its impact on their lives and the world around them. The group meets in the lounge on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Come and join the discussion and have a cup of coffee.  For more information please contact Jim.

Konnect 4 - Children, Youth & Young Adults

  • Tots Konnect – Ages newborn – 3 years

    Tots Konnect together at CBUC on Sunday mornings after the children’s time is over during worship. Kate will be in the nursery to nurture, play and have fun with children ages newborn – 3 years so their parents are able to enjoy the worship service. 

  • Kids Konnect – 3 years to Grade 6

    Here at CBUC we strive to create an environment that respects the needs of children, honours cid_4A6FB0A3 A435 4C8E AD1D F1F3A1A38F2A@gv_shawcabletheir spiritual curiosity and engages them in heart, mind, body and soul. Following a rotational model which allows children to experience the teachings of Jesus in coordination with the monthly theme. This learning environment fosters creativity and leads way for imagination no matter ones learning style. Children will gather in the hall together, explore a biblical story and then unpack the story using different methods to help with understanding. Depending on the number of children, we may stay together as one large group, or different age groups may break off so all levels of needs are engaged. 

  • Youth Konnect – Grades 6-12

    Youth Konnect upstairs in our youth room with their youth leader on Sunday mornings after !cid_30352055-B69F-47E7-84F1-0A4C2762ECAC@gv_shawcablechildren’s time to explore, discover and connect with others. Paralleling the rotation theme used down in the Kids Konnect but with a contemporary twist. This environment respects youth’s needs and is aimed to connect youth through spiritual activities that allow for exploration through discussion and activities. All are welcome!

  • Parents & Tots Playgroup

    Date: Wednesdays, September to June

    Time: 9:30am – 11:00am starting Sept 20, 2017
    Place: Hall

    This is a place for parents, grandparents and caregivers to socialize while watching their children playing 1450234_1393388607638719_8174598957813228044_nwith other children. Coffee is available for adults, but due to allergy concerns we ask that you provide your own snacks. The hall is large and when the weather is fine, play in the outdoor church playground is also an option. This is a FREE drop in playgroup so come by and join us for the fun!

  • Spring Break Musical Camp

    Dates: March 19th – 23rd, 2018P1130718

    Cost: $140 per child (please bring a lunch)

    For the first week of spring break come and spend the day with us creating a dynamic musical with performances on Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th at 7pm. Together we will learn the musical score, create sets, learn lines and engage in dramatic roles. Each year is a different theme and line up of music and we’ve been going for 10 years now! Included in our time together is also the playing of games and a swim time. For those who have been involved  in the musical before and are 13 years and up, there is a Junior Leader opportunity as well.

  • Friday Friends – Grades 4&5

    Dates: Last Friday of each month starting in Sept 2017
    Times: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

    This group is for those in grades 4 & 5. This is an active group that has fun through games, stories, activities and of course food. Come hang out with Jes, meet new friends, have fun and play some games. Bring a friend, or come by yourself. Friday Friends will happen on the last Friday of each month, some dates may change due to holidays. Stay tuned for more information as the year progresses. 

  • Jr. Youth Group – Grades 6-8

    Dates: 1st and 3rd Friday of each month starting on Sept 15 2017
    Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
    Place: Hall

    This group is usually full of energy, excitement, new and familiar faces, and fun! Friends are always welcome to attend. Snack is provided. Come hungry. The group will gather on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, some dates may change due to holidays and pro d days so stay tuned. In addition Jr. and Sr. youth may combine to allow for larger numbers to participate together. Details will be sent out ahead of time via email, phone. 

  • Young Adults Konnect – 18-29 years

    Time: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

    The purpose of the young adult group is to connect, learn together, and build community. No matter what church you go to or whether you’ve ever been to church – you are welcome! Gatherings happen after church on Sunday with a light lunch and discussion. The group will meet on Sept 18th to create how they want to be together.  Stay connected via Facebook 

Music Ministry

  • Thursday Choir Rehearsal

    Date: Thursdays beginning Sept 7
    Time: 7:30pm – 8:30pm

    Join others who have a desire to sing, lead and be nurtured in the presence of others who find music to be a spiritual practice. The time together includes reflection on the words and the meanings of the songs chosen for each week, opportunities to practice both melody and harmony to provide congregational leadership during the singing and occasional work on anthems and special music to be shared as a gift to the congregation. All are welcome. No experience necessary. You don’t even need to know how to read music!

  • Victoria Good News Choir: All ages together in song!

    Our membership is intergenerational, culturally, religious and spiritually diverse. Our repertoire is composed of arrangements of music from the sixteenth century to funk to rock n’ roll to gospel to spirituals. Louise Rose has arranged most of the choir’s repertoire. 

    We are a NON-AUDITION community choir and we are inviting people of all ages to come and sing with us. Our first rehearsal for the 2017-18 season is Saturday Sept 17th at 10am. Seewww.victoriagoodnewschoir.com for more information
